Guided by the Holy Spirit, we listen, learn and care.

Religious Education is the core of the core curriculum in a Catholic school. Through Religious Education, pupils study the Catholic tradition and come to an appropriate knowledge and understanding of the different religious dimensions of life. They are given the opportunity to examine their own religious attitudes and to respect the convictions of others. We teach tolerance and respect for other religions, traditions and cultures.

At school we follow ‘The Way the Truth and the Life’ scheme of work for RE, which fulfils the requirements of the Bishop’s Conference and the Curriculum Directory for Religious Education, which sets forth the expectations for what should be covered by Religious Education teaching in Catholic Schools in England and Wales. In addition to this, teachers extend their planning to reflect the events of the liturgical calendar, global events and the life of the Catholic Church, including support materials from CAFOD, Mission Together and “Caritas in Action” to ensure we meet the needs of our children.

EYFS, Year 1 and Year 3 children (Robins, Sparrows and Finches classes) have recently begun to use the new RE Curriculum supported by Vine and Branches. We are receiving lots of support from the Diocese during this transition period.

Religious Education is further enhanced and given expression through the liturgical life of the church by attendance and active participation in the Mass and the sacraments through the observance of religious services and festivals.  We have regular masses both in school and at church led by Father Hugh. Please visit the Holy Trinity & St George Catholic Church for more information.

Although preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are completed outside of school within the Parish community, during Year 3, the RE curriculum also supports children in this journey towards fuller participation in the Mass and the life of the Church.

The Catholic faith perspective is not an added extra, which we teach and offer to the children, it is integrated into the whole life of the school and into all the aspects of the curriculum. Please visit our Catholic Life page to find out more about how our faith is further reflected in our school life.
